Many people were around for South Beach’s revival, but until now, none had the presence of mind to write it up as the setting for historical fiction — a curious fact, considering the town’s colorful history and kaleidoscopic array of characters. One of those characters is Brian Antoni, a hepcat who was not only there, but helped usher in South Beach’s heyday. In South Beach, the prescient Antoni tells the tall tale of a seeker, recently stripped of his trust fund, who finds that life among the sex-drenched and drug-fueled is both better and worse than he’d expected — luckily, it’s a bit more beautiful and poetic, as well.
